A number of candidates who ran in 1967 signed a letter that protested election fraud committed by the government in the 1967 elections.
Four individuals who expressed later support are listed as signers. خالد مسعود الفهيد did not sign the petition but did refuse the seat he won in the election. By-election winners replaced the winning deputies who refused their seats.
Those who protested the fraud were largely Arab nationalists, drawn from the middle class, and also merchant liberals. Muhammad al-Adsani, however, was identified as a member of the Muslim Brotherhood in the 1963 elections, and Alnajjar says that the protest included those on both the left and the right.
